Thread recognizes that volunteers may wish to post on personal social media accounts about Thread activities. Social media tools like blogs, Twitter, and Facebook are great communication outlets for letting your friends and family know about what’s happening at Thread. We’re excited that there is interest in spreading the word, and have prepared the following guidelines to assist volunteers:

  • If Thread is a subject of the content you are creating, be clear and open about the fact that you are a Thread Volunteer and make it clear that you are not a spokesperson for Thread and that your views do not represent those of Thread, fellow volunteers, employees, donors, students, members, vendors or people who work on behalf of Thread.
  • Always identify that your views are your own and not Thread’s, especially when talking about Thread’s activities. Be thoughtful in what you post – even with a disclaimer, readers may associate you with Thread because of your affiliation with Thread.
  • Get permission from young people and other volunteers before writing about them or posting images of them. Do not breach the security and/or confidentiality of any member of the Thread community by blogging or posting any information about where they live or socialize.
  • Avoid announcements related to unconfirmed programming.
  • Always be fair and courteous to the Thread community, including employees, volunteers, donors, students, members, vendors or people who work on behalf of Thread. Also, keep in mind that you are more likely to resolve interpersonal complaints by speaking directly with your fellow Volunteers or utilizing Thread’s Open Door Policy than by posting to a social media outlet.
