Steps to Becoming a Maryland Corps/Service Year Member!

Your Service Year Checklist: 4 Steps to Secure Your Paid Placement!

What is Maryland Corps/ Service Year? A state-backed opportunity to gain paid, full-time professional experience, earn money, and drive hands-on community impact in Baltimore over a 9-month period. Thread is partnering with the state to secure up to 100 positions exclusively for our young people!

📌 Who is eligible? Thread Young People ages 18+ and still living in Maryland. 

• If you are 18-24 and have a HS diploma/GED, please apply to Service Year Option. 

• If you are over 24, or you do not have a HS diploma/GED, please apply to Maryland Corps.

Follow These 4 Steps to Participate:

1️⃣ Step 1: Complete the Service Year Application

Sign up and submit your official candidate application on the state registration portal. 👉 Click Here to Apply on BuildWithin (and check out this page for step-by-step instructions)

2️⃣ Step 2: Explore Placements & Apply to Specific Pathways

Thread has curated specialized pathways (including IT, Healthcare, Education, and Non-Profit Operations). Note: Many of these pathways have their own separate secondary applications and deadlines that you must complete. 👉 Click Here to Browse the Thread Position Catalog

3️⃣ Step 3: Complete STRIVE Intake

Completing STRIVE's workforce readiness training is a mandatory component of your Maryland Corps/Service Year placement. Staff from the Center for Urban Families (CFUF) will be physically on-site at TouchPoint during some threadHOURS to help you complete intake process on the spot!

• Complete your STRIVE/CFUF application online

• Complete your additional assessments paperwork (physical copies available at TouchPoint during threadHOURS)

• Complete an intake interview with a CFUF team member by...

  • Going to CFUF Mon-Thur between 9am and 4:30pm

  • We will have CFUF team members on site at threadHOURS several dates in August, check out the threadHOURS page for specific dates.

4️⃣ Step 4: Plan for Success!
