As we each work together to decrease social isolation and its disproportionate impact on people who are marginalized, it is important that every single person in our community has a coach to walk alongside them and facilitate their journey of growth. As Head of Family, you are the coach of Family Member volunteers.

In general, always remember to work the Thread Process:

More Specifically:

As a Head of Family volunteer you will build relationships with the young person(s) and Family Members in your Thread Family. You are responsible for cultivating a sense of community across this Thread Family so no individual member feels isolated or stuck. In order to do this well, you must understand - and help all members of their Family understand - that adults need deep & meaningful relationships, patience, and support just as much as young people do. You will receive personalized coaching from a volunteer leader (a GrandParent), regular support from a full-time staff member (a Community Manager), and developmental opportunities to grow their ability to coach others and actively move along a personal journey toward racial-equity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build relationship(s) with young person(s)
  • Build relationships with Family Members
  • Coach Family Members
  • Attend monthly threadTALK & Family Meeting
  • Attend threadHOURS
  • Attend monthly Leadership Meeting
  • Regularly use Thread App to log interactions with young person(s) and other volunteers
  • Focus on annual goals

How often should I connect?

As a Head of Family volunteer you have made a commitment to build relationships within the Thread Community. We ask that you connect at a minimum of:

  • Attend threadTALK and Family Meeting (1st Tuesday of the month, 2 hours)
  • Check-in/Coaching with each Family Member Volunteer (monthly, 0.5-1 hours per Family Member)
  • Leadership Meeting (monthly, 2 hours)
  • Coaching with GrandParent (every other month, 0.5-1 hour)
  • Encourage Family Member volunteers and young person(s) to attend threadHOURS each week (weekly, 1.5 hours)
