As we each work together to decrease social isolation and its disproportionate impact on people who are marginalized, it is important that every single person in our community has a coach to walk alongside them and facilitate their journey of growth. As a GrandParent volunteer you are a Head of Family volunteer's coach.

In general, always remember to work the Thread Process:

More Specifically:

As a GrandParent, you will build relationships with and coach the 8 Heads of Family within a thread (8 Thread Families). GrandParents are responsible for cultivating a sense of community across this thread so no individual in those 8 Thread Families feels isolated or stuck. GrandParents are vital voices in the community and are regularly invited to provide their input and critical feedback to Thread staff, and directly support the development of innovative ways to improve our overall impact.  In return for their leadership service, GrandParents receive personalized coaching from a full-time Thread staff member (a Community Manager) and developmental opportunities to grow their ability to coach others and actively move along a personal journey toward racial-equity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coach Heads of Family
  • Attend threadTALK and Family Meetings monthly
  • Attend monthly Leadership Meetings
  • Get coached by Community Manager
  • Use Thread App regularly to log touchpoints with young people and other volunteers
  • Focus on annual goals

How often should I connect?

As a GrandParent volunteer you have made a commitment to build relationships within the Thread Community. We ask that you connect at a minimum of:

  • Attend threadTALK and Family Meeting (1st Tuesday of the month, 2 hours)
  • Check-in/Coaching with Community Manager (monthly, 1-1.5 hours)
  • Leadership Meeting (monthly, 2 hours)
  • Coaching with Heads of Family volunteer (monthly, 0.5-1 hour per Head of Family)
